ZurückAt the beginning of this year, nine European Transport Ministers formed the Road Alliance in order to set an example for fair competition on the European roads and against social dumping. This initiative is supported by trade unions across Europe, who have been denouncing the often horrifying working conditions of truck drivers for years.
On May 31st, the Commission presented its proposals on the mobility package “Europe on the Move” to render road transport in Europe fairer and more sustainable. In the Commission's point of view, the proposed changes with regard to the posting of workers in the transport sector, cabotage, letter box companies, driving and rest periods should improve on one hand social protection of the employees and on the other hand the means of control available to the Member States.
But is the initiative really able to meet its goals? Will it contribute to the fight against social dumping on European roads? Or will the proposed package lead to further liberalisation of EU road transport?
